Big Mouth

After the infamous turkey-slapping incident of '06, Big Brother pretty much had its teeth removed, afraid to put a foot over the line - any line indeed - for fear of upsetting people. Quite why Family First were letting their kids watch live streaming at three in the morning is a question that remains to be answered, but apparently they were, and consequently we suddenly have girls all showering in their bikinis for three months, the disappearance of Big Brother Uncut, and a lot of bleeping over Big Brother Up Late.

This year BBUL has disappeared as well, but we have a new show - Big Mouth which, apparently, is going to be one of those programmes that analyses the television show and isn't afraid to discuss any topic. Rebecca Wilson informed everyone in her radio show that she was going to rip into Kyle Sandilands and have a go at Rima. The started and we were introduced to our special guests for the night, former Big Brother contestents Tim, Paul and laterly Chrissy.

And perhaps to the surprise of noone, it was all a big crock. Host Tony Squire and Rebecca came on and pretty much immediately started towing the party line. There was nothing said about Sandilands, and Rebecca did indeed get messages about Rima, but how great was she? More surprisingly, Tim was just as equally towing the same party line. Discussion turned to Corey, and our hosts had little time for the booing audience but heaps for Corey, who's a kid. Poor bastard. Tim even felt we were taking the shit out of Corey! Disgraceful. All four, of course, completely missed the point that, sure, he was a kid who fucked up, but the real problem with Corey was that he couldn't be arsed to take responsibility for his actions. Yes he cost the police $20,000, but who gives a shit, cause it's not Corey's fault. Putting him in the house glorifies, not his actions, but the fact that he's a little turd and no one should be bothered to take responsiblity for their actions - after all, it's just a mistake.

Rather entertainingly, Chrissy joined the group at that point, and after the other four had talked about how wonderful Nobbi was, Chrissy brought a completely different feel to the show when she pointed out he was a complete whinger. Tim argued that Terri had put him in the Kombi - again completely missing the point that Terri had to put someone in there. With the arrival of Chrissy, Paul also seemed to get some balls and happily attacked the press who decried all housemates as imbeciles. Chrissy also stated quite bluntly that putting Corey in the house was just a stunt, though Rebecca immediately defended Big Brother - say hello to the new Gretel. No doubt the programme isn't edited either.
Clearly, at some point, people were not excited about the new programme, as the promos immediately started to bleat on about how they were able to show uncut footage. This week the uncut footage was pretty much Nobbi swearing about Terri without being bleeped, and Nobbi having a shower naked. Woot. The rest of the footage was stuff we'd already seen. Oh, except for the fact that Renee likes boobies.

I did have hopes for Big Mouth, but I feel that they are still hindered by the fact that they are unable to give their honest opinions on the actual production of the programme. Nice to see them honest about the housemates, but let's see some honesty about the production as well.

My wife and I had a discussion and one of the things we felt would be a good move for Big Brother would be to get people to vote for who should be nominated and then force the housemates to, face to face, decide which of the nominated housemates should go. Well, surprise, surprise, that seems to be exactly what BB is doing, and so snaps to the producers for doing this. We have yet to see the eviction process, but I think it should be extremely interesting to see the group discuss who is going to go.

My advice to the housemates - it's nothing personal. Purely business.
